Sleep

Sleep

A Poem by Topkat

Wrapped in a blanket made of fear
nobody else may lay in here
This bed is warm my hands are cold
I am not sad, I shed no tear
I shiver more, the heat subsides
it's far past time I closed my eyes
The nighttime crawls into my bed
there are no dreams within my head
I yearn for peace and gentle slumber
To feed my soul and stave my hunger
But what's to be that awaits me
Are burning eyes, insanity
The worlds I've lived in makes no sense
But I dwell there for eternity
My introverted self defence
Has taught me not to take offence
To those noises in my room
They cannot hurt me where they loom
The sandman lays no sand on my head
Is he scared of the monsters under my bed
Dawn emerges I close my eyes
The morning light is my disguise
I'm free to rest i may now sleep
There is no need to count them sheep
A blissful state does await
I can now be met at the gate
