Rara Avis

Rara Avis

I sit and think about you,

Knowing that you are not thinking about me.

Still I can't get you out of my head.

Sometimes I think it's silly

Having such a huge crush,

But whenever you enter the room

It's as if I'm seeing beauty for the first time.

I really don't know what it is about you.

Maybe it's the way you look at me

Or your soft voice,

Lightly inflected with an accent that

That takes me to the sands of Sao Paulo.

Whatever it is,

I think about you endlessly,

Wondering what our kids would look like

With my dark skin and your curly hair,

My full lips and your eyes the color of coffee with cream.

I wonder what it would be like to wake up next to you,

Worship you like the queen you are,

Hold you close to me and feel your skin against mine.

That thought nearly makes me smile,

Yet it makes me sad at the same time.

My insecurities will never let me tell you how much I adore you.

Fear of rejection,

Fear of being told that my dreams of us together will never be lived,

Keeps my mind from letting these words escape my lips

So that they never remain more than just thoughts.

To me you are that rara avis;

Beauty, intelligence, elegance and spirituality mixed into one.

The more I get to know you,

The more my heart longs for you,

Desiring a connection beyond friendship.

That desire has created a flame that is not easily extinguished-

Despite my pertinacious insecurities.

And while I know it's premature,

Perhaps even a little quixotic,

Sometimes I even think I love you.

This is great. You tell your story well.
Forget telling her how you feel. You should club her on the head and drag her home. :)
Take care.

Beautiful and breath taking! You should let her read this. This is what every women longs for, a kind of love that can evoke such words. WoW!
[And you thought you were not good at poems, it just took the right inspiration. She is your Muse.]

Ah its wonderful to see a new poem from you and oh what a luscious and wonderful poem it is. You really pour out your heart in this one and I can feel the longing and emotion flowing through it.

"Lightly inflected with an accent that
That takes me to the sands of Sao Paulo."

Did you want the two "that" this close together? It could work as a feeling of being unsure here or a stutter, but I was just wondering.

These last lines are just gorgeous and poignant -

Supposedly Lionel went through something like this in the beginning. I can still remember how easy it was for me to drive him crazy and the little kick I got from doing it. (Naughty me) When he finally told me how he felt I just about fell over because I felt it too. So who knows, get to know the girl better and maybe things will work out for you too. Just take your time and get to know her and let her get to know you too. And if you notice her enjoying driving you crazy...then you've got her. :)
