A Short Story

"

Jason walked into her office, closing the door behind him. A big smile came across his face as he saw her standing, looking out the window at her lake front view.
She turned around slowly when she heard him come in. Even in her pantsuit she looked sexy. Jason couldn’t help but grin as he approached her. He was so proud of her as he looked around her spacious office, remembering the crowded cubicles they both started off in.
“Congratulations Harmony, you deserved this promotion a long time ago.”
“Thank you.” She smiled back, running her fingers along the back of her leather chair. It was her first day in her new office and she was still taking it in.
“You finally got your oak desk. Maybe around lunchtime I can throw you across it and we can christen it.” Jason beamed.
Harmony took a deep breath as she sat in her chair and Jason sat across from her. She picked up her pen and fiddled with it for a minute,  gathering her thoughts. She had spent most of the weekend thinking about what she was going to say, but it still didn’t make it any easier.
“Jason, we have to stop what we have. I’m your boss now, and it’s against company policy for us to date.”
Jason laughed lightly; finding it cute at how hard Harmony was trying to be stern. She had her hair pulled back and her bronze framed glasses on, but thoughts of her in the black teddy he brought her just a week ago danced in his head.
From the first time he saw her at a company picnic he knew he had to have her, but she didn’t have time for and was too busy climbing the corporate latter to be slowed down by a relationship. However she had sexual needs that needed to be met and Jason was more than glad to meet them, willing to take any kind of relationship Harmony would give him. Over the past two years they became more than sex buddies, but best friends.
“Baby, no one knows about us.”
“People know more than we give them credit for. I could lose my job and you know how hard I’ve worked to get to this point.”
“So what are you saying? I can’t spend the weekends with you any more? No more staying in the bed all day on Sundays discovering new spots to kiss and lick?”
He watched as the color on her honey complexioned face deepened. She bit her painted lower lip, twirled the pen between her freshly manicured fingers and fought to remain steadfast.
“Jason, you know I’m going to miss that. I woke up this morning and was missing you like crazy, but-“
“You always said sex in the morning was the best.”
Harmony took a deep breath and ran her palms across her hair. She thought about how good making love to Jason felt. How good being in his arms made her feel and how much she would miss his late night visits and early morning kisses.
She knew that they could probably continue their relationship undetected, but she wasn’t sure if she wanted to take that chance. Now that she was his boss, people would watch them more closely. They would pay close attention to how they acted around and towards each other, how many times she called him into her office and even how long they spent in there. She didn’t want to go through that scrutiny, knowing that her boss had zero tolerance for office romances after a sexual harassment suit cost the company a lot of money and business a year ago.
“Jason, it’s best if we just stop seeing each other.” Her words came out shaky.
   “Baby, I love you.”
Those words made her look up. Her brown eyes stared into his. Her heart raced.
    “You don’t mean that.”
“Yes I do. I’ve loved you for so long, but I never told you because I know you weren’t looking for a real relationship. I want so much more than what we have, but I can’t imagine having to pretend like I don’t want you anymore.”
She wanted to reach across her desk and hold his hand, but fought that temptation.
“Jason, don’t do this, don’t make it harder than it already is for me.”
“Fine.” Jason said, standing up, “Then I quit. I’ll give you my two weeks notice by the end of the day.”
He turned to walk out of the door before Harmony called him back.
“You know you can’t afford to quit Jason.”
“Yeah, I know that, but if working here means I can’t be with you any more then to hell with this job.”
His words made her smile. She put the pen down, walked around her desk and planted a big kiss on him.
    “You’re crazy you know that?”
    “Crazy for you.”
“I guess that makes two of us. Let’s christen this entire office starting with this desk.” She grinned as she began to unbutton her suit, kick off her heels and unzip his pants.
