Trading BreathA Poem by Jacob WellerOne man given an opportunity to take his brother's death into himself and return life to his bullet torn body
A folded flag, and an eagle, globe and anchor
A suffocating feeling, but pride for your valor My brother! How I wish you hadn’t felt the hurt I’m coming to meet with you now, my soul caked in dirt! Solemn words and bitter tears fall to the ground. Hysteria mixed with grief, but together we lower you down Slowly, people begin to leave, while I linger by I don’t know if what is conceived in my mind, Will bring you back to Life for mine tonight Eventually, from what I see, everyone departs While you sleep, in agony I prepare my heart I walk away, allowing the backhoe to fill your grave Then when he leaves while I’m out of sight, the moon light shines my way Rain drips down from the knotted oak tree and darkens my clothes But I know things that are secret and not many know I took one breath and I let it in to fill my chest My final act about to commence, determined, no second guess Spirits of the Kingdom, and the one of Death gathered close Fire, Earth, Water, and breath left my nose It split the earth, rending it a apart His power is transcendent, I no longer play with cards The servants from high posts heard what I chose, And lifted you out removing all your clothes I took your hand and guided you back When you opened your eyes, I closed mine afflicted with your attack Not by choice, or action from you, but a plea was heard that told me what to do Now my heart is split in two, and yours restored like no lead ever touched you I spoke to you, with my last breath, and a neck crack, This time death was to stay, I am not coming back Bury me here, and take my clothes Make sure you take this story public, letting everybody know The One True King brought mercy today, And punishment too, but don’t let any of them say That he is unjust, as they do not see All the angles and the motives, He is higher than Democracy Now I sleep, and my blood flows To sheol now my body and my soul goes © 2017 Jacob Weller |
