The World Unveiled

I no longer have the innocence of a child.
No longer can I pretend that the world is full of wonder.
I have seen the darker side of man. No more.
No more can I ignore this hate,
This wickedness.
It is easy to believe that there is hope when you are young.
The veil has been lifted from my eyes.
I see it all now.
Each day is just another challenge. A battle to survive.
It is no use to try understand why we must suffer this way.
There is no fair or unfair.
This isn't simply a war of the fittest. Only the lucky survive.
