Lessening

Lessening

A Poem by Tracy

the gold is looser these days--
spinning freely,
threatening to fall right off...
cravings are for
caffeine & saccharine, nicotine & alcohol
so that
the softness of motherhood,
the thickness of naivety
the weight of complacency
are melting away--
leaving behind
a smaller, harder
place so that
the gold gets looser,
spinning freely...
threatening to fall right off
