Eyes and Tears

Eyes and Tears

A Poem by Aislinn Gryffin ((Ashes))

Eyes...

Blue, brown, green, black, grey, hazel...

Windows to the soul

And sometimes the fiery gates of Hell

Or the pearly gates of Heaven.

Tears...

Innocent, sad, happy, fake, real, guilty...

Showing something isn't right

And not everything is okay in life

Or maybe nothing is alright.

Big blue eyes of a little boy

Wondering why mommy left him

All alone...

Brown eyes of teenage girl

Looking at her brother's tombstone and she's

All alone...

Green eyes of a kitten

Laying in the cardboard box by the road

All alone...

Black eyes of a toddler

Throwing a tantrum and in time-out

All alone...

Grey eyes of a pretty woman

As her boyfriend proposes and she's no longer

All alone...

Hazel eyes of my father

As i tell him how i really feel and then leave him

All alone...

And they're crying for things they lost...

To drunk drivers or cancer,

Or to boredom or childishness,

Or to his own selfishness and pride...

Except the grey-eyed woman who lives

Happily ever after with the One for her...

One story out of six that ends happily...

But it's better than one out of a million, right???

So maybe there is hope...
