L'Eden

L'Eden

A Poem by Tigran Avoundjian
"

L'Eden, aka Little Eden

"

heavenly bodies align and in warm embraces unite!

intertwine like shadows and shine!

shine like fireflies on a pitch black canopy of night!

shine upon our souls with your lugubrious light!

shine! illuminate little eden with an easterly glow.

so lovely, so strange,

draped in veils of dancing shadows.

L'EDEN! L'EDEN!

where have your symphonies gone?

consumed by overwhelming silence,

did your fertile harmonies shrink away

with fear?

did your verdant melodies fall

upon deaf ears?

silence! they shouted

when your whispering winds harmonized

silence! they shouted

when your fiery leaves shuddered and fell

in monochromatic piles upon atonal carpets

of barren weeds.

L'EDEN! L'EDEN!

we long for your promise land

but only smiling desolation fills our hands

and we frown, ignorant of

the warmth you instill within our hearts

refusing our will to create

and accepting our fate

our paradise now lost

there remains

no beauty,

no hope,

no light,

and no god left to chase.
