Thoughts on love and truth

Thoughts on love and truth

A Story by Dripping Chocolate Madness

Boundless, unconditional love...
Terms that get thrown around loosely.
Carelessly.
Usually when trying to impress.
Usually for selfish reasons.
Almost always hiding secret, and often indiscreet desires.

I'd like to clumsily attempt to define what I have finally come to understand "true" love to be:
When you would be a particular person's anything.

Clarification:
Anything - Whatever they require or desire you to be, or not to be.

Not their everything, and not because that's what you want more than anything.
Not because that's what would make you happy.
Not because there's a great big hole inside of you that can only be filled by a particular person's special brand of love and attention...
But because that's what they ask of you, and your love simply does not allow for their disappointment.

When you would just as happily be a particular person's nothing, if that's what they would choose.

To just as happily be gone for them, as to be there for them. As a particular person that loves another.

I love that you bring up so many of the "untruths"/cliches of love that float around in popular media and those who haven't lived long enough to have their hearts smashed chasing those things you list.

I adore the last two lines. I'm such a big believer in your happiness coming from yourself. My partner shares and amplifies my happiness, but it neither begins nor ends with them. It's normal to feel sadness or even grief when they leave (especially if it's permenant), but if your only happiness/sole purpose comes from them...oof.

To truly love a person means letting them live their best life, even if it means you don't get to be a part of it.

A tough lesson to learn, but so true!

Thanks for your words!

The last line is kind of sad but I suppose that's part of it too.
What a nice thought. Does this exist I wonder? Or is it reserved for happily ever afters found in disney movies.

It's ok, you don't need to memorize that one.
We're pretty much living it, now.
