"She Talks"

"She Talks"

A Poem by Valentine

"She Talks"

"I love you," she said to the wall,
Seeing his face, where it was not...at all.
Smiling sweetly, she reached out to touch,
The one that meant to her...so much.

Speaking softly...to the wall,
Her mind heard...his loving call.
Talking of places...they had been,
Lost in memories, of where and when.

She takes his hand, and slowly walks,
Hearing his voice...yet only she talks.
Happily planning...their future it seems,
Knowing not...she speaks to a dream.

He remains with her...night and day;
Unaware to her...he went far away.
Happily in her thoughts...she remains
Holding a memory...where love had lain.

She talks to the face, in her mind,
Others knowing...she walks around blind.
Memory lost...in a long ago past,
Where life and love, for her...still last.

She talks to her love, leaning against the wall;
Not knowing she is speaking...to "no one" at all.

Alzheimer's robs us of so many loved ones....because they are robbed of so much. Compassionate and empathetic words, Kathie. Good rhyming. Lydi**

This made me think of The Yellow Wallpaper; these people just lost in their own world, talking to the wall.

Kathie, sometimes, as you have so aptly written, life deals people such a hard blow they withdraw into themselves. Your rhyming, as usual, is spot on, and your story well done.

Thank you Ted, I appreciate your reviews. Kathie
In addition to the cadences in this poem Kathie, I love the way you have created a contradiction in each alternate line. Memories can be so nebulous, because they are what we want them to say.

Ron, she is lost in a dream of what used to be but no longer is. Kathie
I get the image of a poor girl in a sanitorium having suffered a really horrific event which broke her mind and she is reduced from a beautiful confident woman to this shell that can't make out reality from fantasy.
Very strong piece Kathie.
