Old write, not personal.

      Could Have Been

Somewhere along life's rocky road,

Please stop and wait for me.

Years have passed since I saw you.

Yet your memory has not set me free.

I am wishing you all the joy,

That life...could ever bring.

As you walk along life's pathway,

May I ask you one last thing?

Somewhere along life's long race;

Stop, that I might once again see your face.

Let me hear that life treated you kind.

If not for my mistakes, you could have been mine.

Oh, how those "what-ifs" can plague us. I certainly have a few. If only we could start our lives old and wise, then make all the right choices and grow to be young.

There is a lovely Latin phrase that springs to mind after this. Carpe diem. (Seize the day)
It could make a splendid title for this wistful poem which implies so much about missed opportunities..

Norman, I had a mad crush on this one we dated then he left the state, he returned months later to ask me to marry him. He had not contacted me in all of that time. I was dating someone else, he then returned to his own state, he was afraid as a Catholic , and me a Protestant his family would not accept me. They finally gave in but I had moved on. Kathie

A fairly common problem, Kathie. My wife and I had the same mixed religion objection problems. We married after only five months, at a local registry office and 51 years later , we are still together. For a fuller account
