" Why Care "

" Why Care "

A Poem by Valentine

            " Why Care "

Never to know, never to see,

The person that, might have been me.

For I was lost, to the powers of the night.

Darkness called...the owl took flight.

Taking advantage of the night and its lure,

Falling into evils...that have...no cure.

Bitten by the pleasures that can be found,

When cast out... unto the night...ground.

The world of darkness...sees no light;

No differences between...wrong or right.

Go in for the kill...take it for free.

Feed off of the soul, that could have been me.

Owls and bats...see, sense...and feel,

Sucking out the good,  their hungers are filled.

Rather black this one, Valentine? But some great lines -

For I was lost, to the powers of the night.
Darkness called...the owl took flight.

I would see that as more of an adventure, however, rather than the black hole you seem to see it as.

The world of darkness...sees no light;
No differences between...wrong or right.

Perhaps there isn't? Maybe it's only our learned perception, the yardstick we measure wrong and right by. William Blake wrote 'Heaven and Hell' to indicate that 'without evil, there can be no good', as one is measured against the other. I prefer to see all life as experience, good and bad, and take whatever positives I can from it. There is certainly no such thing as a well-rounded character who has not experienced both.

A dark work and a good read,
"Never to know, never to see,

The person that, might have been me."

I liked how you opened it, the words draw your attention in to the rest of the poem.
