"No Winners"

"No Winners"

A Poem by Valentine

             "No Winners"

A empty house...with empty rooms,
Silence echoes, inside of the gloom.
Sunlight streaking through a torn shade;
All sits empty...like old promises...made.

Once each room was filled with things;
Couch and chairs, beautiful glass, glistening.
Voices would echo...down each hall;
Telephone ringing...with everyday calls.

Laughter often bounced off of the walls,
Check on the baby...soft foot falls.
Love filled each and every room;
Life...where silence, now fills the gloom.

Promises made...promises broken as well,
Empty rooms...where many teardrops fell.
Love found...and then sadly discarded,
Broken hearts...faithfulness...unrewarded.

Children lost...in the utter chaos...
Left in tears, they too... pay the cost.
Who are the winners..when love dies;
Who wipes the teardrops from all eyes?

House left empty, as new lives are formed,
Empty cold rooms, that once were so warm.
Children wondering...just what they did wrong,
Were they bad...is that why home is gone?

House sitting empty...it too feels the pain;
Peeling paint...broken shutters, in the weeds lain.
