A Long Drive

A Long Drive

A Poem by VelvetPotato

A long drive
Towards the mile high
From Wichita to Hays
In and out of a daze
My young shepherd
In the passenger side
(Snaps like a Gator
Cuddles like a doe)

As prairie hypnotized
And flat pastures rambled
One might think it queer
But I let the baby deer steer

Just a silly and dumb idea I had floating around my head, that needed to exist as writing. Now that it exists, maybe it will go away.

Delightful fantasy. Love the lexiconical waltz -- mile high, prairie hypnotized, rambling pastures. I have had a dog or two that was driven, but never one that could drive. I have felt that daze, driving express nightly from Dodge City to Hayes. I could have borrowed your dog. -- bigfootprint

Thank you for your kind review, Bigfootprint.
The last line made me smile. In my view, this idea is entirely worth putting to paper. (Metaphorically speaking) Having a pet along on a long drive is a great idea--especially one that can drive!
