A Confession of Myself

A Confession of Myself

A Poem by Verdant Cynic

On this very night
I shall confess unto you
The very innate truth
Of my personal nature.

Tonight, I will say I love you
My heart will be yours
I will give you all of me
And embrace you in my warmth.

Tonight, I will make a promise
That I will never betray you
A heartfelt commitment to
Always be by your side.

Tomorrow, you will fall
Your head will throb painfully
Your hope will grow dark
And you will cry angrily.

Tomorrow, you will cry out
To the God above
Begging for salvation
Screaming for freedom.

Tomorrow, all will change
I will turn my back on you
You will become my enemy
And I will attack your hope.

I will become blameless
And accuse you of sin
Vehemently preaching the words
You have numerous times heard.

Anger will well up inside of you
Yet I will call you a fool
It edifies my conscience
To blame you for yourself.

You will say I betrayed you
But I say you betrayed your God
I will take all your defenses
And turn them against you.

Those are my words
Words from the very one
Who promised to love you
To the four corners of the Earth.

This is a confession
Of my moral zeal
I herald my own conscience
Over my loyalty to you.

Writing is my expression. It's the sympathetic ear to my struggles of life. It's the lure in the water, seeking the connection from one who might fish it out. I seek those who can add to my words.. more..
