In front of a Mirror

In front of a Mirror

A Poem by Verin

A mirror reflects back only what faces it

It shows neither the past nor the future

Only the image of the present

Should you look upon its surface

Would you recognize yourself?

Or has your concept of self

Yet to fully develop?

Does recognition occur?

Perhaps you only see your possible self

You see your fears,

What you want or could become

What you see is different from what I see

And what I see if I stand in front

Of that glass

Is telling but the words

They say one thing to me

And another to you
