Nameless Saint

Nameless Saint

A Poem by Verin
"

Trying to live a life without regret

"

A man formed his life around a lie

He believed he would become happy

All he had to do was follow a path

He let others decide for him

Figured if he didn’t choose

Nothing could go wrong

Years came and went

He started believing the lie

And went through life as if it wasn’t real

While he forgot all the dreams he had

He never took a chance

They all slipped him by

Working all day and into the night

He put his hours in

But never woke up happy

His life was monotonous and long

Everything he did was right

Never bothered with what was wrong

Mothers told their children to be just like him

“A sweet man with a heart of gold”

Scared of change and unwilling to take a risk

Never taking joy in himself

He grew tired of trying

Old, he died without living

Nobody remembered his saintly soul

How could anyone know he needed saving

Never bothered others with his pain

He kept it locked away from the world

Making others smile was all he ever did

He’d offer up his shoulder to tears

But never once did he cry onto another’s

Helping the fallen and shrugging off the thanks was his way

In his arms the secrets or worries of others could rest

While deep within he carried his own

For on the day of his birth

He lost the one thing every child needs

With no mother to guide him

His heart was a shattered wreck

And it remained fragmented

Till the day of his death
