Nightmare

Nightmare

A Poem by Verin

Nightmare

If I refuse to wake

Then I can truly live my dreams

Travel and glory would abound

But conversely I’d be closer

To that eternal fear

I’d be able to hide

In fortresses or castles

But still I know

My nightmare might intrude

Either as silent assassin

Or beast named Grendel

The horror would find me

Though it wouldn’t just freeze my blood

The terror would be real

I’d be forced to fight

A gladiatorial match

One I’d surely lose

With that in mind

I prefer to wake

Though even then

One day

All dreams

Nightmares included

Must

In some form

Come true
