Forever?

Forever?

A Poem by Verin

We’re designed to die

So why then do we have

Words like “forever”?

What is eternal?

If we are not

We live in moments

For moments

Fleeting seconds and minutes

Make up out numbered days

From birth a clock is ticking

Why then do we have

Words like “forever”?

If our time will eventually

Run out

How can we have “timeless”?

Our very language denies

What is our existing reality

We are aware

That nothing lasts forever

So why then do we say

“I’ll love you forever”?

What does that say

About our love?

If we cannot live forever

How can we love forever?

Or might “love” and “forever”

Be merely words

In a language

That seeks

To deny our fleeting reality.
