The essential attributes of a poet in today's world.

A Poet

A true poet sees the world from many different perspectives.

His mind is open as is his heart.

He shuns preconceived ideas and prejudice.

He has a willingness to listen and learn.

His pen is an insstrument of compassion.

Words emanate from his mind and soul.

He seeks inspiration and then patiently waits.

He observes and ponders.

He dreams and remembers them.

Pen and paper are forever close.

He champions lost causes,

a friend of the underdog.

A disciple of the truth.

An upholder of justice. 

He acknowledges the other, 

whether visible or invisible.

Like a pen that never runs dry,

nor does his enthusiasm.

He is a logophile, a literary addict.

He paints not with a brush,

but with pen in hand.

He seldom stays in one port.

He is a pilgrim without a destination.

A gift to a world that cannot articulate its own existence.

Yes, compassion...disciple of truth...
a literary addict who does not want to stop....
I think the gift is that we are chosen as conduits....and get to do this poetry thing.
I also feel that readers come to us with different perspectives and shed light often on what
we didn't realize we were saying when we write the words.
I quite like this piece...
