Ghost's from the past

Ghost's from the past

A Poem by Victoria Lee~

The shadows block the light of the sun today

Sadness is wrapped around me like a blanket

It is more than the passing of my father

It is that old familiar, nauseating feeling

Something bad is coming this way

I close my eyes, and breathe in and out

As scenes from past flash before me

So many faces I have not seen since I was a child

Ghost’s from the past that want to stay

Quiet voices asking me to come out and play

With my eyes still closed I start to count

One, for anger and violence

Two, for fear and silence

Three, for you and me

Four, remember you are FREE

I take a deep breath as I continue to count

Hoping the ghosts just disappear

Cease the return of this paralyzing fear

Freezing my very thoughts

Their very presence takes me back

To a childhood nightmare

Of windowless rooms

Darkness and shadows

Control

and doom

Dysfunction

Lost families

Broken lives

Some people

Can’t go home

sometimes we re-experience the impressions of the past as they are leaving us, like when we heal from a long sickness, just before we get better we get sick all over again ... the way of this water body, and our brain is mostly water... yhis piece feels like that dark windowless room... well crafted feelings

You must be a survivor. The events of our past shape us into the people we are today. Just by reading your work I would bet that you are a interesting and compassionate person. This is an incredible writing. It would be hard to even pick out favorite lines for its entirety is excellent. Really liked the counting.

The heartbreak of loss coupled with the pain of bad memories in this hard hitting emotional poem makes it riveting! Amazing work! Lydia
