The Pressure
By Villia Williams

hush mom
it won't be long
not long until I leave your nest
no longer sucking on your breasts

hush mom
it won't be long
soon I'll stop going to school
I'll learn the golden rule and you'll see I'm no fool

hush mom
tuition's so expensive
course work so damn intensive
pocket money I need and you can't give

hush mom
I failed another one
but still it won't be long
I'll make you proud you'll see I'm strong

hush mom
did the best I can
who dealt me this hand
letters I still send
damn if I knew the big men

The poem reflects the difficulties many people face upon graduation. Student loans, lack of opportunity, having to live with parents, etc. It can be hard not to despair, but that's what has to be done.
