Of life and death

Of life and death

A Poem by Francesco Vitellini

Once I had a life,

a quiet simple one,

but then, alas, came love

and everything started fading.

As first my precious friends,

all of them it killed,

then came the turn of time

when it took my deepest soul.

Locked up in a loop I withered,

wasting year after year,

and darkness became my world,

my guidedog as blind as me.

But then I opened my eyes,

realizing I was not blind,

but stuck in the strings of your heart,

I raped myself and sent you away.

Without you my life was infernal,

hating and loving you at once,

for nobody came to comfort me,

and I killed the few who tried.

A day gifted me with acceptance,

I left you to be born again,

to a life the most lifeless of all,

of sorrow and pain, yet a life.

But then, see, miracles happen,

there are you in front of my door,

together with whom shares your passion

you’re there to steal even my death.
