Sorry Vol, but as soon as you mentioned double entendre my mind instantly started playing an old Frankie Howard joke about his audience, with big belly laughs from tge guys with big belly's and little titters from the...anyhoo, it made me want to watch up Pompeii again, a movie he starred in, much like the old carry on films he also starred in.
This is one of my favourite things to think about. Why did we get from grunts and hitting people with clubs, to words like effervescant, pomegranate and squishy?
I cant prove it, but i reckon the hipsters are to blame for some of it at least.
I can understand how we got to words like ouch, because it was just an auto response when someone bounced a rock off your uhm... top of you bit where you keep your eyes nose snd mouth, but how in the name of jumping forks did we get to ingredients like a burst of fruit or a hint of calm?
Ill tell you why...buddy hipsters, thats why?
And why when they love technology so much do they all dress like 18th century cobblers?

Yes there are indescribable things, like the Indians in America who could not "see" the Spanish ships anchored offshore, because they were so far out of their realm of experience, Or like the color blue which had no name until just a few centuries ago. Or things spiritual that have consequence and power, but have nothing to do with physical existence. Or like the depth of love I have for Patricia... how can something not made of matter or energy have any describable atributes such as "depth?" It may be that the need to describe the indescribable was impetus for the development of languasge at all.
