Right Or Wrong?

Right Or Wrong?

A Poem by Skye
"

is it right or is it wrong

"

How can we chose

Right from wrong

When right for one

Is wrong for another?

People answer easily

'Your heart will know the way!'

But our hearts are all wide rangeing

Too inconsistant to be true

'Then your mind!'

They call again,

once more too hastily

Still, the mind makes troubles grow

As so does your question

The answer is one hardly thought

So simple as it is

There is no right

There is no wrong

Just you trying your best

I don't know if I believe this or not, but I do know that right or wrong varies between each person. Tell me what you think, your opinions, your comments. I know there are a few spelling errors I'm sure, if you would point them out to me? Thanks so much for reading and thanks in advance for any comments!

I see The Scholar has given one of her famous lengthy reviews. Well I do try to follow my heart and gut feeling in love, but not often in the intellectual world. Still, it is a beautiful write!

First of all, let me say I love this poem! You write so well, and present so many deep thoughts in your writing.

I don't agree that what's right for one is wrong for another though. I think way too many people falsely start believing that truth is split into facts/values. That is, that there are some things which can be scientifically proven as truths, while there are other things -- morality, theology, etc. -- which are simply relative and subjective to the individual. When it comes to religion, for example, one person could say "I believe so-and-so to be true," and yet another could say "Well, that's true for you, but not for me. I believe xyz to be true." Thus, religion simply becomes a matter of choosing whatever faith makes you feel the best, and not actually trying hard to discover the real truth.

When you start saying that right and wrong are simply subjective, it gets out of hand. A man could murder your best friend, claiming that it wasn't wrong of him to do that since it is his personal belief that murder is OK. Would it be wrong for the courts to punish him then? Because if right and wrong are simply decided by the individual, and the murderer decided murder was not wrong, how do the courts have any authority?

Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry! I've been rambling on and on. My apologies, this is just a topic I'm rather passionate about. If you haven't guessed by now, I believe that truths such as right and wrong are absolutes.

Don't mind my ruckus. I hope I provided something to at least think about, but keep on writing! You are a very talented and thoughtful young lady. Onwards and upwards! :)

Yes, very well said. What may be right for most, may have a negative impact on another, so there can only ever be what is best as every action has differing effects on different people. Beautifully expressed.
