When Binary Stars Get Funky

When Binary Stars Get Funky

Heartbeat stars.... seriously, it's a legit astrophysics term. Compare the picture here (a stars variable brightness plotted over the course of weeks, with an Echocardiogram... it's similar enough.

"

When binary stars get funky

High precision interaction luminal shows, violent events called,

"the most spectacular"      standard candles

Plays out like space porn, in my mind anyway

When a star orbits another with an ecentricity called extreme

It leaves a message in the light, a record of causalities, oppressions of light

Almost a gentle hum - from many trillions of miles away

(punctuated by a few days of sheer astral terror)

And our space darling friend Mr Kepler (in a space can)

Running around earth with our technicals

(we love him don't we?)

He reveals such bizare photometry

It's never beautiful,  (at least not to the eye)

Just dots on the page forming a line on a graph

A trend of stats from a mess of data points

Points of relative brightness several trillion miles away

In tiny intervals of time, every 30 minutes for we will be exacting

(if we could)

The void comes to life to the mind in a way that cannot be dreamed of

(if you look the right way)

It must be learned, if even accidently or indirectly

Everyone struggles

("you don't see with your eye you percieve with your mind" - Gorrilaz)

They call these heartbeat stars

An echocardiogram of a star in tango with another

On a page, in a graph... with data points

Massive realities

Being ripped and deformed from the absolute extremes of interstellar tidal destruction

Explosive super novae

(type1a)

(not just yet)

First we must dance

Pulling each other apart, into one another, preparing for something almost infinitely Violent

Ultimate inclusion

A standard candle

Then a lovely black hole

(I'm sure)

Good god damn binary stars, when they get funky

Perceptions of extremes

Encoded in the light

(then lost in the dark)
