If

If

A Poem by A.M.Yellow
"

Short poem on religion

"
If there is no heaven
If there is no God
And no reward for doing good
Then, have I
Wasted my time being kind?
It is less troublesome to mind my own business
It is less burdensome to watch the world burn
I faltered a long time ago
So long, I can't remember when
I faltered and I am at peace
With myself and with God
If there is a God

You posit a pertinent question. Being moral doesn't require faith, nor does being empathetic. A person need only ask of themselves what do they take pleasure in? Do they take joy in the suffering of others? Or do they find peace in the helping of those less fortunate then themselves? Being a better human being doesn't require you believing in a God. It requires you in believing in yourself and the need to be better because it's simply the right thing to do. Morality and ethics are personal traits. If someone needs the idea of a God to find these traits then who am I to argue as long as they strive to be a better person that is all that matters. But God doesn't make you or keep you moral, only you do. It's your choice my friend.
