Smile

My smile has vanished in thin air.

I can no longer bring myself to care.

You stomped my strength to dust,

And laughed as it was carried away by a gust.

Where confidence once showed brightly,

Doubt has now wrapped around tightly.

Why do you hate me so?

Am I truly so terrible to know?

You’ve raised me since birth.

Yet I seem to be of little worth.

You’ve stripped my smile away,

For reasons that never seem to stay.

It seems my happiness is banned,

And pain is all you have planned.

Pain has me tethered by a leash.

With my smile just out of reach.

I like this piece quite a bit. There's plenty of back story and emotion built into it that I "feel" it. It's great!

Those last two lines really did it for me. They were the cherry on top of such a wonderful cake!

The emotion, timing, and word choice made this poem easy to read, relate-able, and an all around lovely piece of writing. Good job! :)
