Sinking into the bottleA Poem by WhiskeyandLionsDrunken night
The day was long
The beers flowed cold I was seeing double Then I heard her voice “Eyes on the road mr mike” I look over to the empty passenger seat and there she is Smiling sweetly like she used to I regain sense and check the road Its too late The car flies off the bridge SMACK Sinking into the depths I check the haunted seat Nothing there Must have been a drunken hallucination Some subconscious nightmare brought on by the alcohol This can be real I think I don't even remember getting into the car I reach into the glove box, grab the flask, and drink deep Water is rushing into cracks and pooling on the floor “Your running out of time” “F**K! WHAT IS IT YOU WANT FROM ME?” I scream She disappears "AT LEAST TELL ME HOW I GOT HERE" She Never did like confrontation Soaked up to my knees now I realize the severity of the situation Although It’s not escape that I wish for But for her return Even in the form of a ghost Even if she’s just a figment of my drunken mind Whatever it was I’d give anything for it to happen again She never comes I’ve scared her away Lost her for the second time All those nights spent thinking of what I’d do different How no time would be wasted Water splashes into my mouth as I attempt to breath What does it matter I think to myself All that ever has is lost to the world Thud Completely submerged I hit the bottom Oddly calm I look around There’s a strange peace to be had on the cusp of oblivion The world is going dark If only she was here I would tell her I’m sorry And see her smile sweetly one last time © 2013 WhiskeyandLions |
