Once and Only

Once and Only

A Poem by William Coad

My love,

My once and only love,

How much I wish I knew you before the rain,

While this world is falling to the ground,

And all I have is pain.

But you,

My once and only love,

How much I beg we’d loved in the day,

Now night has come and shadows fall,

And nothing's left to say.

Oh why?

My once and only love,

We met but once upon a dream,

Then you were torn from me,

And I was left in ice and snow.

Oh please,

My once and only love,

Forgive me for what I’ve done,

I betrayed my only truth,

And our only son.
