I am not

I am not

A Poem by William Coad

I am not young,

I am not old.

I am not weak.

I am not bold.

I am not tall,

nor am I short.

I am not a freak

or some piece of artwork.

I am not man,

nor woman, nor child.

I am not strong,

weak, or mild.

I am not anger,

or calm

or the between.

I am not intellect,

or foolery,

or what can be seen.

I am not black,

I am not white.

I am not day.

I am not night.

I am not beautiful,

nor am I not.

I'm barley awake,

writing on this cot.

I am not even,

William Coad.

I am not even,

my long traveled road.

So if not me-

any of these things,

then what am I?

What am I?

I am my work.

My words and these rhymes.

For if you want to know me,

you'll meet me in between the lines.
