After The End

After The End

A Poem by William Coad

There was no time or place,

no season or colour or countenance.

There was no ethical rhyme or pace,

no theoretical beings mountainous.

No heaven or hell or in between,

no earth no sky " no moon or mars.

There was no reason for anything,

but just so there wasn't not.

There was no white or black,

there was no colour either.

There was no light that dazzled so bright,

no shapes or forms in the ether.

It wasn't long after I'd entered this place -

So empty that no words can describe it.

I'd been floating there,

with no time and no space -

I realized I had arrived.

Not hell nor heaven nor in between,

no afterlife this either.

Consciousness drifted in and out,

but nothing really matters.

As I lay down on nothing,

I listened and I heard a voice,

speaking so dark and yet oh so bright.

“You've finally come here”

the nothingness said -

“And now, here are your answers.”
