Your Laments

Your Laments

A Poem by DIVYA
"

An honest 'motivational speech

"
For all those 'lamenting' a lost love - Never take them back, who at one time walked away. A returning lover is a curse, the regrowth of a tumor, the recurrence of a cancer in the form of fatal secondaries in your liver, after a traumatic excision. Each time nastier and more insidious than before. Only an idiot would invite a cancer back in their lives after surviving all the emotional chemotherapy, following their exit. For sure, they'll destroy you again. Cancer is by nature, malignant, a black widow's web. So stop sighing, crying and dying. Don't harbour hopes of sweet reunions and happily ever afters with them. They're not capable of it. Stop degrading yourself with your public laments. Instead, be grateful you're rid of a fulminating disease and hope for lifelong remission. Accept your scarred, disfigured parts, hug yourself tight and walk off into the sunset with the ugly, new, you.

Love can hurt and leave scars which never fade with the passing of time and if someone walks away for the chance of a better life, happiness, even love in may leave an ache deeper than a stab wound in our heart, but if things aren't working out it is better to leave the situation than to live in a home akin to hell. What is important for the person who walked away is to never forget why they walked away, because that will be enough of a deterrent not to want to return again. I have looked at the opposite side of the coin to the one you very impressively composed in this exceptional penning, dear Divya. You tell it like it is when a relationship breaks down and cannot be rebuilt again. A very empowering poem, with great depth and a big flavour of no nonsense! Excellent choice of title also. Thank you for sharing, dear Divya...

Strong words of feeling in this. It is raw and assertively explicit. The image of a cancerous tumor and a black widow's nest are forceful and there is a sense of pain and anger here that ring out in the words. This is a forceful plea to others to stand firm and not believe once one has parted.

This poem should be a lesson to all of who might make this drastic mistake that you so strongly and eloquently deliver to us…..don’t be a fool and take some back who has walked away from you…. It’s toxic at the least… and
Only diminishes us to weaklings….its painful to lose someone you love , but it’s worse if they come crawling back…. We should be strong and move ahead ….because if we don’t we will lose our self esteem, our dignity….
Divya dear, love your courage in writing this excellent piece
Warmly, B

Dear Divya, well they do say a leopard never changes its spots. As I read your lines I thought of Leonard Cohen and Ted Hughes. A returning lover is a curse you say , comparing them to a malignant tumor. Well I have been carved, poisoned and burned once already to remove a cancerous tumor and survived. Is any man truly worth going through all that again? How do you trust someone who is a deceiver? I guess we are all different and until put into that situation we don’t know how we will react. But for sure if he’s dumped you once, you can safely say he will find it easier the second time. This is such a strong write from your talented pen. Much enjoyed the read. Kudos to your pen.

Untill now, I read your beautiful metaphors and poetic imagery, but today I find a very different voice. It seems to come from an empathetic yet strong and mature heart. True, 'Self' is often neglected. I love the voice and its strong deliverance!

You're very welcome, dear Divya. Wishing you the best, today and always ❤
Personal and righteous . Although laments sometimes forgive it is hard to forgive ourselves. And we should as you say. This is wonderful and right conscious and beautiful in its self opinions .More power to you my friend. Thus speaks the man who has done exactly all that. But only once with each one.

I like the returning livers more. I think there is a poem in that.
What to say to a friend who knows me more than well! Hurt, pain, disillusionment, distrust and so many other feelings pave the way to language like yours. Thoughts grip the heart like limpets. We feel what we feel. Is not the depth of feeling, is not how long or short the relationship. What is it? What loves so deeply but ..: If a step away or towards the other, takes you into a battle zone or off the edge of space, what then? Walk away, cope, shrug, fight - or cede. As said, we are all different. Self hurts, Self stands or falls. Self matters, if only to smile at the right time..

Gee
I have had many a dalliance but only one love, the love found in the early nineties whilst holidaying abroad. Will never get to know, thank God, the feeling of being jilted:)

And wow. That'd be an interesting love story! I'd love to know more, someday! :)
Oh Yeah! I LOVE the guts it took to sling this all out! You are soooo right! Every relationship I've tried or anybody I know tried again has failed miserably! Usually the next stupid time is more expensive! And stupidity "should" cost more! How else are we going to learn to put our blinders on? Great Job!
