Reality Check

Reality Check

A Poem by Winter Brooks

This feeling in my gut, it feels cold

The wind is blowing upward?

How is it that the wind is coming from the ground?

The word ground ponders on my lips

What is it?

Is has been so long since I have felt it under my feet

What does it feel like?

Every once and a while I'll hit a ledge and bleed

But I ignored the foothold

I'll sit and wait until the small ledge crumbles

And the wind will begin to blow again

I remember how I ignored the upward wind

An ever so obvious warning sign

I did not question why or try to change it

Many hands reached out

But I looked the other way

Maybe I will continue to fall till my blood runs out

And maybe I will get up and climb

But that is up to me
