Broken Windows

Broken Windows

A Poem by Author Wisdomoon
"

A free write for my oldest daughter

"

I write like urban love chants
to melodies that escape through broken windows
and shatter mind sets of oppressed teens
dirty diapered babies and absent parent households..
My sound is heard in headphones..
that help young girls focus on homework..
or write blogs about …being special..
despite the world that is falling down
around them..
I write poetics…..
So they know that I believe in their dreams..
In their headwraps, skateboards, or Air Force Ones..
I am me and I am THEM…
In every shade, shape, and creed..
I write poetics for their beauty..
Their innocence..
But mostly to feed their ability to see
That every young girl doesn’t have to be..
A trick, tramp or hoe..
For every street corner that has promised dreams
Of feeding teenaged delivered babies…
I write poetics so they can believe
In universities and Cappa De BEAUTIFUL…
Poetry to rise above the standards
Of broken promises, skinny jeans and checkered vans..
Because one thing is for certain…
In this world babygirl,
They are all “jerks”
My words are so that she can stand out..
Be different..
And listen to poetics that smash oppression
Beating out of boom box speakers..
No more broken windows..
She sees her future..
Peace
