The Storm In Your Eye

The Storm In Your Eye

A Poem by John McDonald
"

It was storming this evening so I wrote.

"

With a crash then a bang
The storm rages on
Threatening my well-being
Just a few feet above my head

The rain hammers on the roof
And I wonder if I'll get wet
If I'll take a shower
Here in my bedroom

A tree just lost a branch
But I found it as it came
Smashing through my window
Piercing me in the back

The phone line seems dead
And the power just went out
Yet somehow I keep on typing
As though I am channelling
The lightning out there
The electricity in the air
Into power in here

I look out my broken window
I see the twister coming
To tear me from you
But it's alright, and I'm okay
Because I'm not in Kansas anymore

Four line stanzas come easy, but I don't like consistency. So the random lengths are meant to be.

I liked the last stanza a lot. And as I write this review the thunderstorm rages outside my window and I smile at the energy behind it. I liked this especially because I can relate to it at this exact moment. Nice write.
