She Jumped

She Jumped

A Poem by

The wind blows steady, ruffling her hair.

She breathes in a breath of the summer air.

Inside she’s screaming, “This isn't fair,”

As she stands on the balcony looking at the city square.

She slips off her heels while she speaks a prayer

Into the fading sun’s last bright flare.

“Forgive me, my friends, for I have fallen.

Please don’t let me leave and be forgotten.”

She gripped the railing until her knuckles turned white.

Tears stung her cheeks as she thought in the silent night.

She had enough of the unwavering despite she felt for herself,

The curse of love that left her feeling not quite right.

The only way out of the pain was to rewrite the ending to her story,

So she jumped, spending her last minutes of glory with her heart in flight.

This was a great write. The poem flowed easily and turned into a story while keeping its poetic form. Great job!
