Do You Care?

Do You Care?

A Poem by

No one cares about your life story unless you're pretty or dead.
See how everyone leaves with so much of their life unsaid?
I walk in this world and see the pain on the streets.
That girl over there, crying in the corner, you see her?
What happened? Do you care?
See the marks on her wrist? Do you care?
That boy, with the bruises on his arms and a drunk father at home.
Do you care?
She has a bottle of pills again, heading to the restroom. Do you care?
She's found half alive, vomit dripping from her lips. Do you care?
Her clothing provoked him, so it's her fault?
Do you even care?
These people are traumatized, and the world goes on.

Last night her best friend killed himself. Do you care?
He was bullied for being attracted to the same sex.
How is it that so many people are so closed minded
They can't even accept someone for who they are?
She doesn't believe in God so she's a satanist? Do you even really care?
He was born as a woman, but chooses to be male, and you tell him he's going to hell?
This world makes no sense to me. And do you even care?
Why are you so offended that someone is different than you?
She likes wearing all black and dying her hair, does that make her nonhuman?
I don't expect the world to be perfect, but how can so many people hurt each other like this?
Oh, he isn't muscular? Why would you care? He isn't you.
She's not one hundred pounds, so she should go to hell?
She should kill herself?
She should die?
No.

He has a mental disease, so he's stupid? Why are you so quick to judge?
She failed high school, so she'll never succeed? What business is it yours?
That bald woman sitting at a cafe with a sullen look on her face, sipping coffee, see her?
Go ahead and judge her for shaving her head. I mean, breast cancer is nothing,
She's going to die anyway, right?
No.
You don't know how much pain she's in, and don't act like you do.
He has diabetes, which brought on kidney failure.
Are you going to tell him it's all his fault and he should take better care of himself?
Do you understand how hard it is?
No one is perfect, not even you.
Do you care about starving children? Adults?
Do you care about the homeless, or are you worried your Xbox is out of date?
Think about what's important, not what society has brainwashed us with.
Looks, sizes, and material objects are not the Big Problems of life.
Yes, make sure you're happy and healthy, but also look out for others.
Someone could really use your help if you weren't so quick to judge.

Author's Note

I don't think you'd view this really as a poem, but I thought it'd be an interesting thing to write, and something to really be thought about. Tell me what you think, I suppose.

This is deep. I really love this. It makes me think about how messed up the world really is.
