How to Carry People's Burdens

How to Carry People's Burdens

A Poem by Wunderlich
"

I just wrote this after a night of drinking and bullshit.

"

You dropped that piano right on my back
It was out of tune, and the keys were cracked
The music that played as I walked down the street
Made people scream and all the cars screech

I tried to make my way back home
But every turn I took people followed
I covered my ears but couldn't cover their mouths
They spoke and spat out their problems

I ran inside and pulled the blinds
Like a horde of zombies they all gathered outside
They moaned in monotone and scratched at the walls
They knew I couldn't ignore their problems any longer

I dropped the bottle and my head
Onto the table and tried my best
To drown out the noise of their bullshit
That came through the air like AM static

I scream and cry and die
Every goddamn night
When I ask for a set of ears
They laugh and grab mine
They press their dirty damn lips
Right up against them
Filling them up and up and up
With all that s**t I don't care about

You walked up to me the very next day
I thought you had come to take the piano away
But you dropped your bass and your cello
Right on my back and left me standing there alone
