Loneliness

Loneliness

A Poem by Tori

Loneliness works in such strange ways.
It's is like a glowing a fire, that must suddenly undergo
the anguish of a hard, seasonal rain.
Hopes and dreams, spent forever building,
only to be destroyed by that one fear. It only lasts for a split second.
And in that split second, you world crumbles down like a wall of childrens blocks,
being toppled over by a mercieless army of toy soldiers.
Everything that was worth smiling, or even living for, crash to the ground
and land at your feet. And what can you do? Nothing.
Just stand there is paraylizing horror as your lifes work is tossed into flames,
which consume it greedily. Tauntingly. And when you try and stop it, it only blazes faster.
Once that second is up, all that's left are the ashes of all you once loved. The malicous embers
stay behind just to mock you. To laguh at you. Tears pour from your cheeks and crash to the ground,
disappearing into the ashes.
Each tear that vanishes is just another piece of you lost to the fire.
After so long of mourning, you walk away with charred hands and singged fingers.

* ~ ~ *

Loneliness works in such strange ways.
Some of us only feel it's slight, pitiful sting. It pains you,
but not to the point where your sanity comes into question.
These people who are this way should be grateful.
They have only felt a temporary sting.
Compared to those of us who aren't so fortunate, that is.
We are burned everyday by our own guilt of selfishness.
We are forced to undergo blows and attacks from it's nerve breaking hold.
It slices at our heart, slowly and sadisticlly removing it form our chest.
It leaves behind a mishevious gift in place of our heart.
A Stone for a stone.
Because once you have felt the eternal grip of loneliness,
even once given the chance,
you will find it impossible to escape.
