Defector

Defector

A Poem by Y. Counts

I'm supposed to feel connected,

while I glide along in my sterile space pod,

somehow alike with the others

who amass and dwell

within this beating commune of souls.

We all bring forth our young.

We all pay the taxman

with his drooly grin.

But my thoughts shift

and stray from the mundane

when some other light wants

to breakthrough and turn

this inside out, brilliant.

Its not a popular thinking-

Its not in my demographic-

And its not patriotic.

Its not even in line

with this very real daily grind.

But it speaks to the defector in me

and rings a bit more true

then the faces behind the glass

that circle me, shadowed.

Let them win at their own game,

they can have their little slice.

I'll slip past

and disappear into a crack

between worlds for now.

Wow, when i have time i think ill read all your work, lol the stuff you write describes a very real feeling that i get often that "what the hell am i really doing and who are you people feeling" is what i took from what you wrote that idea of going against the norm and moments of clarity when you realize that life is so much more than the surface. Enjoyed immensly
