Celtic Memories

Celtic Memories

A Poem by Yaakovashoshana
"

Mixed emotions found languishing in a drawer after a quarter of a century.

"

On a mild October afternoon,

Celtic melodies fill my head.

Penny whistles and violins

Sound like mournful birdsong,

While the hammered dulcimer and harp

Conjure sweet, melancholy memories

Of another October evening,

long ago,

As I watched a handsome Cavalier

and a Faerie Queen,

Exchange wedding vows in a moonlit glade,

In a cathedral of soaring pines

and starlight.

The knight in shining armor

had chosen someone else,

Yet, I truly wished them

endless happiness

As I wept for joy

and misery

in equal measure.
