Whisper

A Poem by Paul Pruett

 

 

I longed for it and it came.

Finally.

Long days of wishing.

For one brief breath, I felt her.

Touched her hair.

Smelled her perfume.

Heard her whisper my name.

Then as fleeting and the wings of a dove, gone it was.

The velvet of her lips lingered less.

The silk of her skin faded away.

The ache in my heart built to tears.

For one brief breath, I felt her.

And she was gone.

My soul weeps.

Long days of wishing are gone.

All I have now is to wish again.
