The Most Important Thing

The Most Important Thing

A Poem by Initium

I’d like to share my thoughts truly,

I’d like to be an honest girl.

I’d like to be myself before you,

I’d like to be accepted by this world,

But I, a minority, cannot stand tall.

I can be Christian, or gay, or whatever you hate

I find a way to be that person.

Can the insults not wait?

I can’t scream aloud,

Even my pillow won’t listen.

I can’t dream without

Knowing that something is missing.

No longer can I see that I’m okay,

Because I never was in the first place.

I lied to the mirror and I knew all along.

Now, just please, give me some space.

Let me find my passion,

Let me find my love.

Let me write my feelings,

And most importantly, let me speak with you, really.

My name is Brooke,

I love to write.

My name is Brooke,

I only sing without the lights.

I sign petitions,

I am a secretive young woman.

I can’t say that I’m ambitious,

But that I will be sure to get what I’ve always wanted.

I thank you for listening,

Though it’s gone over your head.

I thank you for watching,

And know that this is the most important thing that I will do until I am dead.
