The Monster Inside Me Grows

The Monster Inside Me Grows

A Poem by Zachary Dary

The monster inside me grows.
He always lies dormant,
Sleeping every day and night.
I dread the day he wakes.
Wakes from his eternal slumber.
I killed him before, in the past.
But somehow, he lives and feeds.
Feeds off my insecurities and loneliness.
He's stirring in his sleep.
When he stirs, he commands my being.
I have no control when he stirs.
His claw twitches, I punch.
His tail moves, I choke.
He doesn't breathe.
He doesn't drink.
He doesn't eat.
When he finally wakes
And his eye looks through mine,
And looks upon the world with cold black eyes.
He will rule.
I will be ripped apart.
His day comes closer and closer.
His movements get stronger by the day.
I realize now that I am doomed.
Doomed to succumb to this.
This twisted and evil fate.
When he is unleashed,
And my soul is sacrificed to him.
Men will see my corporeal form.
They will not see his true form.
They will not know their doom.
