A Day in the Park

A Day in the Park

A Poem by John Zohoranacky

A Day in the Park

An old man sits in a park,

And watches everyone walk by.

He hears a dog bark,

And sees an eagle in the sky.

He frowns on this beautiful day

‘Cause he mourns a recent loss,

His eyes have turned to gray,

His mind no longer boss.

His heart is torn

And it hurts like hell,

Sharp as a thorn,

Or a demon witches spell.

He looks at a photograph

Of him and his wife,

The only photograph,

That means his entire life.

Tears run down his face

As he strokes her ruby cheek.

And he knows that in this place,

He will not last a week.

He pulled out a gun

And put it to his head,

But before the deed was done

He looked to heaven and said,

“For you my beautiful dove

Whom I cannot live without,

We shared so much love,

There isn’t the slightest doubt.

But now that you are gone

I am completely lost,

Like a newborn fawn

During the winters frost.

I cant do this without you,

It is too much to bear.

And so I’m coming back to you,

So honey, BEWARE!”
