This is the Night

This is the Night

A Poem by Alyssa Alvarado
"

Randomness

"

Swirling pool of stillness
In the night the thoughts dance like music in the air
Temptation licks her bittersweet lips
The world caves in
He crawls on his knees

This is the night
This is the night
And by the time day comes 'round
He forgets and loses himself a little more
This is the night of his reality
The sudden epiphany
And it'll all start over again

Like the circle of life
He'll overcome it all only for it to come back and spit in his face
He's as strong as rock but still crumbles like sand
Slip through the safety of Invisible Hands
Straight to hell and back again

To do it all the next day
Fear keeps him going like the Breath of Life
The Destination is known
Kiss truth one moment and sleep with lies the next

This is the night
This is the night
And by the time day comes 'round
He forgets and loses himself a little more
This is the night of his reality
The sudden epiphany
And it'll all start over again

Cry a river of confessions
Regurgitate promises
This night he believes in God
But he'll forget his name in the morning

Smoke a cigarette and talk to the walls
Routine walk, maybe he'll get lucky and pick up some faith on the way
But when the day runs out
He'll realize the Bible is still blank and his prayers are on the ground
Box of faith is empty

He says good night
To whoever is listening and sticks his middle finger to the world
This is the anniversary of his death
This is the night he acknowledges his personal hell
Only to relive it all again
This is his night

Quite a story that fitted nicely into a poem.
I think the repetition works here, the ending
was very good. Well done...
