Goodbye Daddy

Goodbye Daddy

A Poem by Andrea A. Wentz
"

The name says it all.

"

Her daddy kisses her gently

She wonders what is wrong

Her mother cries softly

Daddy walks away

To the big, green Thing

That rumbles and hisses

Confused, the little girl

Walks towards the Thing

"Where is my daddy?" she wonders

But says nothing for she

Is only a toddler

And can not talk yet

She can not understand

Why he goes

Nor why he returns

All she knows is that

Something is wrong

The little girl waves

As her daddy rolls away

In the big, green Thing

He turns around at

The end of the block

But not to return

The big, green Thing

Rumbles on by

The little girl waves

Until she see’s him pass

Confused she hops off

Her mother’s knee

And yells after the truck

Trying to get his attention

For he passed her and kept going

He does not slow down

He does not stop

She pouts and returns

To her mothers arms

Her mother cries now

For she knows what

Her little girl is feeling

For she once had a father

Who left her too

Only to return in a

Month or three

Like mother

Like daughter

The cycle continues

Andrea, I waited a while before I read this because, I knew what was coming and I was too emotional to read it. So today was a good day and I decided to read it and I am so glad I waited till today. This is so heartwrenching. Some men do not understand that they have the choice to change jobs, single guys can work the away jobs, when you have family, you have responsibility at home and at work. I am so sorry that you are dealing with so much. My heart aches for you. This by the way, is a very good poem as well.

How painful.

And a feeling I know too well. How I wish with all my heart that this cycle ends. This is not what I wish for my children. Maybe that is why we hold on, instead of carrying on. Because we understand the pain, the agony that is deep inside. This truly broke my heart.

Oh man, this is sad stuff. Reading this makes me so glad that my parents stayed together, so many of my friends have gone though the same sort of thing, it's awful. I thought this was very well written and seems to capture perfectly the thought process of a young girl who clearly doesn't understand the situation. Thanks very much for sharing this and for entering my contest, good luck. HoWiE ;-)

andrea, this poem reflects your creativeness
and passion, the wording is complex in emotional
detail, this has a heartbreaking ammbience,
captures the readers imagination, making one
sympathetic toward the meaning as being touching,
sad, pure poetry, thanks for sharing your talent, mike

Such a sad piece.........having a father that cannot or will not acknowledge his child and the
pain and confusion that lasts a life time.
Very vivid and emotional.

Andrea, wow. This was heart-wrenching. This is why when I have kids I'm going to be around them as much as possible. This broke my heart.
