Deep as the Rivers

Deep as the Rivers

A Poem by Abbie

I am a bolt of a complete machine,

I have come to understand.

Help from one who has learned first hand

Will keep each mind from doubt.

“This is who I am,”

He spoke clear and stated sound.

Shame never held on and hate could not set.

In his presence racial fires froze

And brotherhood gained ground.

All insecurities washed from tortured eyes,

 And love saw no horizon.

An influence this fixed will carry on long past ones dying day.

A million strong with words and thoughts,

Not worried of what they faced.

I have come to understand! What a powerful piece...........

I'd love to hear the story behind this poem. The metaphor in your first line is extremely visual -- I can see the cogs in the machine turning. I think that you would have gotten your point across better if you had not been worried about rhyming certain lines, but still, it's a very nice piece. You have potential. :)
