A Littany for Tetany (Possession)A Poem by Alli CPossession That rusted lid you just split your skin with? The blade was my body and as you began to swell I poured into the wound like a poison My veins are twisting around yours draining the blood from their throats until they fall. limp and brittle winter branches; weeds charred by summer sun My voice begins to echo in your throat lining the bones of your jaw sewing your lips to your budding tongue with calculated decrescendos Reverberating through your mind behind your teeth leaking from your lips until the pain is so pervasive you can no longer contain my voice My skin slides down your throat like oil melting on your tongue dissolving with the acids in your stomach My breath contracts your muscles ligaments tear as bursting buttons. Your mouth aches, your lips crack. And I am there to catch the fallen pieces. My fingers curl around your spine my eyes command opisthotonos to drown remaining nerves and vessels. Your words temor and falter your liver yellows. Your heart releases golden blood that drains from the sockets your eyes once called home.© 2014 Alli C |
